201 Stainless Steel is mainly composed of iron, containing approximately 16–18% chromium and up to 0.15% carbon. It also includes small amounts of manganese, nickel, silicon, nitrogen, and copper. Compared with 300 series stainless steels, 201 stainless steel offers better formability and can be strengthened through cold working processes, although it cannot be heat treated in the same way as 304 or 316 stainless steel grades.
As a high-manganese, low-nickel stainless steel, 201 has relatively low nickel content and therefore provides lower corrosion resistance compared to higher-grade stainless steels. Nevertheless, it remains widely used due to its cost-effectiveness, good mechanical properties, and excellent forming capability. It is commonly applied in tabletops, countertops, kitchen utensils, outdoor decorative projects, urban decoration works, and economical household products. In addition, 201 stainless steel is also used in medical instruments and automotive components that require a balance of flexibility, strength, and durability under pressure.
